I was born with a very low chance of survival as a premature infant. At the time my parents put all their faith into a nurse who dedicated all her time and effort to help my case during my time in the hospital. My mother made an agreement with this woman, if she can do all it takes to ensure that I come out healthy, she will get to choose my name. That’s how the story of Hevi (hope) began. As a child of two human rights activists during a time of unrest in Kurdistan, Iraq, I was imprisoned with my mother as a 3-month year old baby shortly after being released from the hospital. At the time it seemed as though the odds were against my family and I and a constant struggle was destined for us. We managed to escape and overcome yet another difficulty in our path. These obstacles are all a part of life and when we are facing challenging moments, it seems as though we will never recover and our wounds will never heal. A few years later, we were fortunate enough to have been accepted into Canada as asylum seekers. I had entered a new chapter of my life and a journey that truly empowered me to become the person I am today. I faced bullying for being culturally different and not as privileged as the other kids around me. I got lost between who I was and who I was supposed to be to fit in to both my roots and my new environment. We all have moments where we think to ourselves, why is this all happening to me, why me? Today I live in Dubai and work as a Motivational Speaker and Life mentor. I have dedicated my life mission to helping people reach their highest potential, giving back to society and building tomorrow’s leaders. I am a huge advocate for self-love and the bettering of humanity. I know sometimes it may seem as though life is against you but take a look back on all the challenging moments in which you thought you’d never overcome and you did. You came out stronger and wiser.
