The Finnish Programme at DIA is a Finnish non-profit association founded in June 2012. The association cooperates with Dubai International Academy (DIA, www.diadubai.com), an International Baccalaureate (IB) accredited school, operating in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. DIA has more than 1,900 students with 78 different nationalities. The association has a dedicated classroom in the school for the purposes of teaching the programme. The Association provides Finnish language classes to children enrolled at Dubai International Academy who speak Finnish as a mother tongue language. The Finnish Programme started operations in September 2012. The Association follows the Finnish National Board of Education curriculum. The goals of the programme are to develop the Finnish language skills, raise awareness of Finnish culture, traditions and customs, and celebrate Finnish national holidays. The programme has the full support of the management at Dubai International Academy due to its values around diversity and internationalisation. The Association is financed primarily by student tuition fees, combined with support from the Finnish government and Finnish multinationals operating in the Middle East.
