Princess Haya Award for Special Education was initiated on 23rd November 2008 as the first of its kind in the region by Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, in order to acknowledge outstanding individuals and institutions in the special needs sector. The award is in recognition and a motivation to all those who pledged their lives in helping people with special needs. It encourages best practice in the areas of provision, creativity as well as acknowledges the role of special needs educators, therapists, management, caregivers, parents and supporters. This award encourages continued professional development; it is a must for professionals working in this field to assure they keep up to date with recent developments around the world and labor hard on self-improvement and acquiring the necessary knowledge to enrich their service delivery, therefore acquiring principles and techniques to tap the unlimited potential of children with special needs.
